Ro’s Colored Glasses

I find that thrift shopping is very therapeutic. It’s not even about the spending. There’s just something about taking my time to sift through the racks to find gems. I usually like to go alone so I can take as long as I want. Although I do love going with friends that take as long as me as they give great second opinions!

I styled this outfit starting with a handmade trench coat I found at Goodwill. I loved how long it was on me and how the fabric was lighter than a regular trench. I picked this trench up in the spring without having a real outfit in mind, but I had an idea of what silhouette I was going to go for.

I paired the trench with H&M high-waist flare jeans and an asymmetrical top from Crossroads Trading. Since everything was neutral, I felt the need to accessorize with lots of color. I put on my forest green Jeffrey Campbell Foxy platforms, which were the perfect height for my super long flares.

My other accessories include a burgundy eel skin shoulder bag I picked up at Oakland First Fridays (see what I wore it with in a previous post), a headscarf from the 90s, a mustard shawl scarf, and Crap Eyewear The Fly sunglasses in peach/rose.

I’m wearing a borrowed statement necklace and April May Jewelry Hooplah Hoops (see what I wore these with in a previous post). On my lips, I used OCC Lip Tar / Matte in Black Dahlia over Too Faced lip liner in Perfect Berry.

For my hairstyle, I just flipped my shoulder-length hair upside down, placed the middle of my long rectangle scarf on the back of my head and pulled the ends forward, tied the scarf and pinned my waves down with a few bobby pins. I like to wear headscarves or turbans in between shampoo days. Tip: try not to shampoo your hair everyday as it strips the moisture out of your hair. Instead, use dry shampoo sprays on the days that you don’t shampoo to absorb the natural oil or put your hair up to change your style up a little during the week.
